Ethics and value of technology and scientific progress, professional ethics, ethical aspects of research collaborations are important parts of research and higher education. All sciences and academic disciplines give rise to complex ethical issues. Dealing with them requires theoretical and practical knowledge in ethical theories and norms, including familiarity with relevant norms in science and society.
The Institute of Technology offers the course Research Ethics which is mandatory for all PhD students and provide them with knowledge about good research practice and understanding of possibilities and limitations of science and technology, its role in society and the responsibility for how science and technology is being used, developing ability to make scientific judgments based on ethic principles.
