Courses offered for Exchange Students

General information about course selection for exchange students

Studying a full semester
Full-time studies corresponds to 30 ECTS credits per semester.

Meeting the prerequisites
It is important that you only select courses that you are eligible for. The specific requirements for each course are specified in the course syllabus. From your Transcripts of Records it must be evident that you have previously taken and completed courses that signify that you meet prerequisites for all selected courses. If you are not able to show this, it will not be possible to admit you the course. There is a strict check of this when your application is being processed and there are no "add and drop" periods for exchange students, meaning that the course selection must be all cleared before the student will be admitted. Only in special cases, course switching after arrival is approved.

Education level
The level (of progression) of a course (within the subject area) is noted as

  • G1 - Introductory level 1 (first cycle undergraduate/bachelor level studies, no previous studies within the subject are required)
  • G2 - Introductory level 2 (first cycle, undergraduate/bachelor level studies, previous studies of 80-90 credits are required)
  • A - Advanced level (second cycle, graduate/master level studies, a completed Bachelor's degree and/or three years of previos studies within the subject area are required)

Two study periods each semester
At the Faculty of Science and Engineering each semester is divided into two study periods.

  • Spring semester: Vt1 and Vt2 (Vt is short for "Vårtermin" the swedish word for spring semester)
  • Autumn semester: Ht1 and Ht2 (Ht is short for "Hösttermin" the swedish word for autumn semester)
Courses may be scheduled during only one study period (Vt1, Vt2, Ht1 or Ht2) or they can run during the whole semester (Vt1+Vt2 or Ht1+Ht2).

Scheduling
The hours of week are divided into four timetable modules, 1-4 (in swedish "schemablock"). To ensure a collision free timetable you should not select more than one course per timetable module each study period. Please note that there are some courses that take up more than one timetable module during one study period.

Campuses
Education is organized at three campuses in the cities of Linköping (LNKP) and Norrköping (NRKP). A bus, free of charge, connects the campuses in Linköping with Norrköping, witch a travel time of about 40 minutes. When selecting courses, please select all courses each study period in either Linköping or Norrköping, as it will not be practically possible to travel back and forth during the day.
