Every student should feel welcome

Ulf NilssonThe future confronts us with enormous challenges in areas such as climate, environment and energy, health, diagnosis and care, and safety and risk management. To meet these challenges we will require key competence within technology and science, combined with innovative approached for solving problems.

One of our main challenge as the responsible for educating the future technology developers and problem solvers is to meet our students in a way that makes everyone feels welcome to our university. We need therefore, to plan the teaching in a way that it suit all students, independent gender, age, social background and ethnicity.

Gender awareness teaching at LiTH

Each fall, about 2,000 new students arrive to the Institute of Technology at Linköping University. For a few years their life will be filled with studies, social activities and more.

Students of today are looking forward to an education that will give them both deep and broad knowledge in various subjects, but also the possibility of to develop abilities and skills related to engineering skills, cooperation, communication, entrepreneurship and leadership. The educations programs have therefore to enhance their awareness and approach ethical issues, sustainable development and gender.

At the Institute of technology at Linköping University, it is consequently, important that both male and female students' experiences, knowledge and views will be seized and developed. Every student should feel welcome. That is an issue we can be a part of and contribute to!
