For each subject, the general curriculum gives the extent of the courses required for the licentiate and doctoral degrees. Courses that are required for the specific major subject are specified.
For all PhD students at the Faculty odf Science and Technology (Tekniska högskolan), these courses are compulsory:
- A course on philosophy of science, methodology and ethics of at least 6 credits.
The course Scientific methods & Research practice (6 credits/hp) is held regularly at the Institute of Technology at Linköping University. It may, after evaluation by the course coordinator, in individual cases be replaced by a course / courses that have similar contents and scope.
The Board of PhD studies has decided that PhD students who were admitted before 2010 are exempt from the required course.
- All PhD students who teach shall have a basic course on teaching, with a minimum of 3 credits. At least 3 credits must be included in the PhD studies, any excess credits to be counted as departmental duties.
Centrum för undervisning och lärande (CUL, the LiU centre for teaching and learning) provides the course Learning and Knowledge – Basic Course in Higher Education Pedagogy, 6 credits. It is addressed to employees at LiU who are teaching.
